Understanding Early Childhood Trauma and its Impact on Adolescence and Adulthood

Course Summary:
It is probably no surprise that people that have experienced trauma as children have a higher chance of modeling that trauma and passing it on to others, often resulting in crime, probation, and jail time. On the other end of the spectrum, some people that have experienced early childhood trauma use their experience as fuel to do good and help others. This course may help you deepen your understanding of the people and children you serve, but it also may help you unpack your own past and create a deeper understanding of your own intrinsic motivation for doing this work. In both cases this course will open your mind to new perspectives and provide a scientific understanding of the root cause of some of the issues you’re faced with on a day to day basis. Together we will explore the ACES study and other compelling new research discoveries that will help deepen your understanding of early childhood trauma and become more informed, compassionate, and mindful law enforcement officers.
