Peer Support-Basic Tools and Beyond-3 day intensive
Course Summary:
In this 3 day course, participants will learn skills in each of the following content areas: Coping with Line of Duty Death Keeping your your work environment Trauma informed. Trauma and Psychotherapy Basic Peer Support Skills-Critical incident debriefing, stress management, spotting co-workers in need and using proper support facilitation practices. Issues for Families in Law Enforcement-Bringing the job home, cultivating resilience in and out of the work environment. Suicide Prevention and Intervention-Signs of depression, anxiety and stress and other factors that lead to suicidal thinking and behavior. How to intervene with a suicidal coworker, supervisor or peer. Compassion Fatigue-Its a real thing. How to know if you are in it. How to help a peer or other to recover as well as prevent it. Grief and Bereavement-The cycle of grief, managing feelings in an stoic profession.The difference between grief and depression and what helps in each Critical Incident Stress Management-Immediate post incident, acute stress management and post acute. How to get through with yourself intact so you can support others. Relationship Issues-Family and partner dynamics while working in law enforcement. When does your job effect your home life and how can you prevent it? Depression, Anxiety, PTSD and other mental health issues that can be treated and overcome even while working in law enforcement. Substance Abuse-How prevalent substance abuse is in the U.S. and how being in law enforcement makes people even more vulnerable. Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) as a form of treatment for Post traumatic stress disorder and other evidence-based treatments. LBGTQIA Community-department diversity and being informed and sensitive to the needs of all department staff.
