KEEPING CALM UNDER PRESSURE IN PROBATION

Course Summary:
Working in probation is a high stress job. A combination of law enforcement and social work, the job of a probation officer is both rewarding and exhausting. You can sometimes feel you are about to lose your cool. Keeping calm under pressure in probation teaches officers, managers, supervisors and non-sworn staff how to resolve conflicts and differences with co-workers and others in your department. It also teaches staff how to manage their own emotions during challenging times dealing with clients on their caseload or youth on their unit. We all have buttons and we would prefer they don't get pushed. This class teaches staff how to remain calm under all types of pressure and stay in control of your emotions. Using the ideas of Emotional Intelligence, this class teaches staff how to tune into themselves, adjust their attitude before entering a meeting, shift their perspective even in the midst of a difficult conversation, and communicate what they want to get out of an exchange with someone, making them much more effective at work.
