Non-violent Communication and the Art of Mindful Listening


Course Summary:
If you work in probation it is very likely that you are often confronted with challenging conversations. These conversations are likely infused with emotion and reactivity. The way we listen and communicate can be something unconscious or it can be something that we nurture and develop, and as it turns out there are best practices to promote calm, less reactive, less triggering, mindful communication. In this course you will learn non-violent communication techniques for more peaceful, productive, and authentic conversations. Additionally you will learn somatic practices that help calm your nervous system and keep you centered, so that you are more at ease in the midst of difficult conversations. This class is not only meant to assist you with conversation at your job, but also in your life.
Performance Objectives

2.Perform your ability to mirror communication
3.Train your brain to listen to the emotion behind the words -deep listening
4. Communicate to another the 4 main practices of non-violent communication: learn without judgment, express your feelings, voice and clarify your needs, and make specific requests
5. Know how to augment your posture to promote receptivity while maintaining authority
6. Perform body-based practices to help calm your nervous system and keep you centered even in the midst of difficult conversations
