Coping With Grief and Loss


Course Summary:
This course will cover what happens when someone experiences a loss in life. Whether it is a family member, co-worker, friend or probation client we feel these losses. Participants will learn the normal stages of grief and loss and what to expect. Overview of different methods to help cope with loss and how to give yourself a break in the process. The effect of not allowing yourself to grieve is discussed and how to assist another going through the grief process. Understanding difficult emotions, behavior and reactions related to grief and loss and traumatic events. Interventions to help offenders and clients when they are experiencing a loss are discussed. Lots of resources and service referrals are given to course participants that they can utilize long after class.
Performance Objectives
1) Utilize methods of coping with loss and grief given in class
2) Explain to another the stages of grief and healthy vs unhealthy coping with grief and loss. 3) Use information given to understand and aid with difficult emotions, behavior and reactions of someone experience a loss or traumatic event.
4) Utilize interventions learned to help offenders and clients going through a loss. Use the resources
